Monos of Ibáñez
From September 18, 2019 to January 12, 2020
This exhibition is dedicated to one of our most popular cartoonists of all time: Francisco Ibáñez.
This exhibition wants to be, at the same time, a tribute and a vindication of the art of Francisco Ibáñez, comic creator of such iconic series as Mortadelo y Filemón, 13, rue del Percebe, El botones Sacarino, Rompetechos o Pepe Gotera y Otilio, to cite his longest-running humorous sagas.
The sample consists of:
- Five panels with texts and reproduced images that explain the professional career of the Catalan author.
- Showcases, in which the visitor can enjoy a wide selection of publications in which Francisco Ibáñez’s signature appeared from 1952 to 2019. Likewise, the showcases show examples of the diverse merchandising generated by this author’s series. In total, we exhibit about 150 objects, including magazines, books and merchandising. It is the best way for the visitor to know the huge production of Ibáñez and his evolution as an author.
- Original pages provided by various collectors and by Ibáñez himself. 30 originals are presented in chronological order of realization. Among them: a self-portrait and quite unknown jokes, pages of his collaboration for the magazines of Editorial Marco (from series like com Kokolo, Curiosidades y rarezas de todo el mundo or Los tres mosquitos), originals of comics and covers of characters like Mortadelo and Filemón , Rompetechos or Don Pedrito, and some exceptional pieces, such as sketches of Pepsi Man or the drawings and texts that Ibáñez presented in Bruguera for series such as Doña Pura y Doña Pera, vecinas de la escalera o El doctor Esparadrapo y su ayudante, Gazapo. And some surprises.
This exhibition also includes extensions of some of his characters.
